Walk through a typical day
Trace where you arrive, drop boots and bags, cook, gather, work and sleep. Picture a school morning, a rainy afternoon and a holiday with guests.
- Which door will you use most often?
- How do groceries get from the car to the pantry?
Count living area, shop and porch separately
Living area on a BarndoVista home is measured to the outside face of the exterior walls and does not include the shop, garage or covered porches, which are listed separately. When you compare with other designs, check that they count the same way.
Bedrooms together or split
A split plan puts the primary suite on the far side of the living area from the other bedrooms; a grouped plan keeps everyone close. Think about who sleeps where now, and in ten years.
- Do you want the primary suite away from the other bedrooms?
- Which room could become an office or a guest room?
Mudroom, pantry and laundry
These small rooms decide how tidy daily life feels. Check where each one sits, not only whether it exists: a mudroom at the door you really use, a pantry next to the kitchen, a laundry near the bedrooms or the back door.
Where the shop door faces
In a home with a shop or garage, look at which wall the big doors are on. It decides how the drive reaches them, what you see from the road and where mud, snow and noise end up.
- How would vehicles and trailers reach the doors on your land?
- Does the shop need its own entry from the house?
