About The Timberline

The Timberline greets you with heavy timber king-post trusses over the entry and keeps the timber going inside, where the great room is crowned with exposed trusses and a river-rock fireplace. Taupe siding and a bronze roof sit easily in a wooded lot, and a rear deck with room for a hot tub makes the trees part of daily life.

Living in The Timberline

Who it suits

The Timberline suits wooded and mountain lots. A timber gable 12 ft wide marks the entry on a front porch that spans 66 ft. A covered rear deck, 26 x 10 ft, is meant to hold a hot tub.

Room by room

  • Front door: a double door 5 ft wide opens into the great room, 23 ft 6 in by 35 ft, with exposed trusses overhead and a river-rock fireplace.
  • Close by: the great room has doors to a powder room, a laundry, a pantry and a coat closet.
  • Primary suite: entered from the great room; it measures 21 ft by 19 ft 6 in and has a bath and a walk-in closet.
  • Bedrooms: down the hall are Bedroom 2, Bath 2 and Bedroom 3.
  • Rear deck: the great room’s 6 ft glass door opens to the covered deck.

Build notes

  • The 7:12 roof stands 11 ft to the eave and 21 ft 6 in to the ridge. A 7:12 cross gable, 12 ft wide, starts 28 ft from the left corner, over the porch at the entry.
  • Your engineer sizes the exposed trusses and their connections.
  • The porch has 10 posts and the rear deck 4, both under 3:12 shed roofs. The hot tub adds weight, power and drainage that your builder and engineer plan for.
  • The chimney exits the rear roof slope 15 ft 6 in from the ridge and stays below it.

The exterior and interior images are concept renderings of this design, not photographs of a built home. Finishes and fixtures are illustrative; the plan governs. The floor plan is drawn from the plan set. Areas are approximate and measured to the outside face of exterior walls; porches, garages and shops are listed separately.

Foundation
Typical starting point: monolithic slab-on-grade with a thickened edge (a stem wall where frost depth requires), footings below the local frost line, a footing under every interior bearing line and girder point, and porch-post footings with uplift ties. Sizes are clear inside dimensions for rooms and rough openings for doors and windows, from the plan set. Roof heights are above the finished floor. The structure and foundation lines are typical starting points: the drawings are not stamped, and your builder's engineer sizes members, footings and anchorage for your site, soil, snow, wind and frost depth.
