About The Lone Star Wrap

The Lone Star Wrap wraps its porch around the front and side so there's always a shady seat, wherever the sun is. Ivory siding, a limestone base and a charcoal roof give it a timeless ranch look, and the attached three-car garage handles trucks, toys and tools. Inside, a limestone fireplace and French doors from the primary bedroom keep the porch in reach.

Living in The Lone Star Wrap

Who it suits

The Lone Star Wrap fits households with land, trucks and a taste for porches. The porch wraps the front and the left end, giving shade on 2 sides of the house, and the garage wing at the right end has 3 bays.

Room by room

  • Front door: double doors, 5 ft wide in all, open into the great room, kitchen and dining area, with the limestone fireplace in the same room.
  • Pantry and mudroom: both open off the great room, and the mudroom is the way into the garage.
  • Primary suite: a 5 ft glass door on the left wall steps out onto the wraparound porch, and the suite has its own bath and walk-in closet.
  • Bedrooms: Bedroom 2, Bedroom 3 and Bath 2 each have a door straight into the great room.

Build notes

  • The porch is 10 ft deep, 56 ft along the front and 36 ft down the left end, on 13 posts under a 3:12 shed roof.
  • The house roof is 6:12 with its ridge at 20 ft. The garage wing has a lower roof, 10 ft to the eave and 17 ft 6 in to the ridge.
  • Three 9 x 7 ft overhead doors face the front. Ask your builder what fire separation your code wants at the mudroom door into the garage.
  • The chimney passes through the front roof slope, 11 ft from the ridge.

The exterior and interior images are concept renderings of this design, not photographs of a built home. Finishes and fixtures are illustrative; the plan governs. The floor plan is drawn from the plan set. Areas are approximate and measured to the outside face of exterior walls; porches, garages and shops are listed separately.

Structure
Drawn for conventional wood (stick) framing; trusses, posts, beams and footings are sized by the builder's engineer. A steel-frame or post-frame version is an adaptation your builder or engineer makes. Member sizes, connections and loads are by your builder's engineer for your site.
Foundation
Typical starting point: monolithic slab-on-grade with a thickened edge (a stem wall where frost depth requires), footings below the local frost line, a footing under every interior bearing line and girder point, and porch-post footings with uplift ties. Slab thickness, footing sizes, reinforcing and anchorage are sized by your engineer for your soil, frost depth and loads; shop and garage slabs are usually heavier than living-area slabs.
Counts
10 windows, 3 exterior doors, 3 overhead doors, 13 porch posts

Sizes are clear inside dimensions for rooms and rough openings for doors and windows, from the plan set. Roof heights are above the finished floor. The structure and foundation lines are typical starting points: the drawings are not stamped, and your builder's engineer sizes members, footings and anchorage for your site, soil, snow, wind and frost depth.
