About The Meadowlark
The Meadowlark starts with the porch: ten feet deep and running the whole width of the house, with cedar posts and a cedar ceiling that glows at sunset. Step inside and the great room opens up under exposed wood trusses, anchored by a whitewashed stone fireplace. The kitchen island seats the whole family, a walk-in pantry keeps the counters clear, and the primary suite sits quietly away from the kids' rooms. Simple, warm and built around the way families actually live.

Living in The Meadowlark
Who it suits
The Meadowlark fits a family that wants a classic country house with room to spread out. A porch 10 ft deep spans the front and a covered patio 12 ft deep spans the back. The great room sits between the primary suite and the bedroom hall.
Room by room
- Front door: the 3 ft entry door opens straight into the great room, which is one open room with the kitchen and dining area.
- Pantry and patio: a walk-in pantry opens off the great room, and a 6 ft glass door on the rear wall leads to the covered patio.
- Primary suite: at the left end, with a bath, a walk-in closet and windows on the front and left walls.
- Bedrooms: a hall off the great room serves Bedroom 2, Bedroom 3, Bath 2 and the laundry, all at the right end.
Build notes
- One 6:12 gable roof covers the house, 11 ft 6 in to the eave and 20 ft 6 in to the ridge, with the gable ends facing left and right.
- Two 3:12 shed roofs cover the porches, each on 8 posts. Your engineer sizes the footing under every post.
- The 3 ft wide chimney comes through the front roof slope 1 ft from the ridge.
- The drawings assume wood framing, so a steel or post-frame Meadowlark is an adaptation for your builder or engineer.
The exterior and interior images are concept renderings of this design, not photographs of a built home. Finishes and fixtures are illustrative; the plan governs. The floor plan is drawn from the plan set. Areas are approximate and measured to the outside face of exterior walls; porches, garages and shops are listed separately.
Floor plan and specifications

- Masses
- House: 64' x 36', living space, eave 11'-6", ridge 20'-6"

- Front porch: 64' x 10', 3:12 shed roof attached at 11 ft 6 in, beam 9 ft high at the posts, 8 posts
- Covered rear patio: 64' x 12', 3:12 shed roof attached at 11 ft 6 in, beam 8 ft 6 in high at the posts, 8 posts
- Structure

- Foundation
- Typical starting point: monolithic slab-on-grade with a thickened edge (a stem wall where frost depth requires), footings below the local frost line, a footing under every interior bearing line and girder point, and porch-post footings with uplift ties. Slab thickness, footing sizes, reinforcing and anchorage are sized by your engineer for your soil, frost depth and loads.
- Counts
- 12 windows, 2 exterior doors, 16 porch posts

Sizes are clear inside dimensions for rooms and rough openings for doors and windows, from the plan set. Roof heights are above the finished floor. The structure and foundation lines are typical starting points: the drawings are not stamped, and your builder's engineer sizes members, footings and anchorage for your site, soil, snow, wind and frost depth.
